Repentance

REPENTANCE

When we are not repentant for the sins that we commit against God daily, there is a strong chance that the enemy will be able to seep in sneakily and wreak havoc in your life. You might be wondering why we should be asking for forgiveness when Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins. Well, that is correct and because Jesus died on the cross for our sins we now have the ability to apply the blood of Jesus Christ to our sins and have them wiped away. Repentance is important in order to do that.

Then if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, if they will pray and seek me and stop their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 New Century Version (NCV

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

 1 John 1:8

When we live our “regular lives” of going to work, coming home, taking care of our kids, hanging out on the weekend with friends, going to church — it can become easy to think that we are without sin. All of us have a story of how we came to Christ or are coming to Christ yet when we have not deliberately said sorry and turned from our ways that were against a Holy God, you better believe that the enemy will use any peep hole to bring chaos and disorder in your life.

Though we may “think” that we are without sin in our “normal life” we forget about how we judged the person at work, or spent 10 hours on social media idolizing and coveting after other people, or speaking against our children saying that they get on our nerves, or when we came into agreement with fear after watching the news, or when we gossiped about our friend or simply listened to the gossip as it took place.

These things may seem to pass us by plus so much more and so we must come before a Holy God with a repentant heart, knowing that every single day we mess up and we don’t deserve Him of our own works. It is ONLY because of the blood of Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven and have relationship with Him. If not for the blood, we would be responsible for the payment of every sin that we have committed day in and day out — and, friend that list is exhaustive. We desperately need the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse and thank God that He is faithful to not only forgive us but also cleanse us as we see in 1 John 1:8.

No sin is greater than the other, however, when we look at Scripture, we see that some of the sins that aroused God's anger were pride and idolatry. In entrepreneurship today, we see some of the same themes occuring where success is obtained and shortly after, there is an infiltration of pride or idolatry which then leads to a fall. Or we see an entrepreneur who may be idolizing success so much that their life revolves around the sole idea of money, fame, and riches. Let's not do this!

Let's come before God and repent for these sins that we have committed to not give the enemy a foothold against our lives, businesses, families, or anything else.

Pride

Hebrew definition: zāḏôn

Definition: pride, insolence, presumptuousness, arrogance (Referenced from Blue Letter Bible, Strongs H2102)

Practical example in our life:

Believing that we can start a business based on the education, previous experience, and connections that "we" have formed over the last 20 years. This completely ignores the fact that God has given us all ability to do all things

Idolatry

Greek definition: eidōlolatria

Blue Letter Bible Definition:

the worship of false gods, idolatry; of the formal sacrificial feats held in honour of false gods; of avarice, as a worship of Mammon; in the plural, the vices springing from idolatry and peculiar to it

Practical example in our life:

  • Spending more time on social media than spending time with or abiding in God
  • Expecting fulfillment, love, and adoration from the success found in business, marriage, parenthood, etc.

Here are some additional resources that are freely available online as additional prayer resources. Though we have resources, we may consider that God wants to hear from our lips and hearts. He wants to hear from His child and so these resources are starting points with the goal of encouraging you to spend time with your Abba and reconcile in every way.
